Slow Slow Tune

Cannon Beach, OR

When I began creating the music video A Love Letter, I knew it needed more than images or words - it needed a sound that felt like home.

I chose <Slow Slow Tune> (声声慢) not only for its emotional depth, but because it’s a piece that lives so beautifully through traditional Chinese instruments, especially the Pipa.

In the music video, I return to this instrument after over a decade away. Reconnecting with the Pipa has been part of my healing - like gently picking up a thread back to my younger self, and to the roots of my culture.

A quiet return to the strings

The song’s title comes from a classical ci poem by Li Qingzhao, one of the most beloved female poets in Chinese history. Her words carry a soft, lingering ache - woven with time, memory, and emotion, like waves returning to the shore.

Below is a handwritten version of the lyrics adapted from the poem, nostalgia and tender, paired with a quiet English rendering.

Here’s an instrumental rendition of < Slow Slow Tune> (声声慢) or a full lyrics version here - let it meet you where words cannot, for every parent navigating the in-between.
